Nice
Capital of the Côte d'Azur, Nice has many charming areas to
discover.
A 5-minute walk from the Acropolis Convention Center along Rue de la République,
Place Garibaldi leads into to the Old Town of Nice, a dense labyrinth of
shops selling local crafts and produce. This ancient neighborhood, almost entirely
pedestrian, should be approached from Place Rosetti or Place Saint François d'Assise
(with its fish market every morning except Monday). The many street-stalls give off
all the fragrance of Provence alongside boutiques of genuine character and a very
wide choice of restaurants, pubs and cafés.
You'll find yourself criss-crossing: Rue Parolière, Rue Droite,
Rue Saint Vincent, Rue Colonna, Rue Sainte-Réparate and Rue de l'Abbaye.
The Cours Saleya, famous for its mellow colors and flower market (daily except Mondays),
lies at the bustling heart of Old Nice with its crowded café terraces and Provençal
market. A bric-à-brac market is held there every Monday, replacing the flower market.
The center of daily life in Nice is the lively Rue Masséna and its neighboring streets.
Close by you'll find Galeries Lafayette, France's major department store and many boutiques
that line the pedestrian area and Avenue Jean Médecin.
From Place Masséna, the pedestrian area composed of Rue Masséna, Rue de France,
Rue de Paradis and Rue de Suède is a shopper's paradise full of de-luxe
boutiques and designer stores.
