The French Riviera Economy

[History] [The economic guide]

History

In the early 60's, major international companies have come to the French Riviera : Texas Instruments, IBM, Aerospatiale, ...

In the following years, the French Riviera has continued to welcome an ever increasing number of national and international firms. Recently, we have seen a new wave of companies setting up : Siemens, SAP, Toyota, Lucent Technologies, ...

Here, alongside a strategic industry - tourism - centers of economic and technological expertise with high added-value have sprung in such fields as information and communication technologies, earth and environment sciences and life sciences. This is undoubtedly one of the major reasons why a good number of companies have decided to move to the heart of this rapidly developing "Southern Belt". As a matter of fact, this area has taken on a new lease of life with a high concentration of "gray matter" resulting from the presence of numerous research and higher education institutes.
